There is a lot of talk here about validating code and using HTML just for structural markup yet I see a lot of people employing their own ways of indicating quoted passages in these fora.

While the ubbcodes provide for some visual markup as well they do have the quote element. Shouldnīt members here use the quote element especially considering a recent post about people scanning text instead of reading it word by word. Having quotes appear styled the same way all over WebmasterWorld makes it way easier to scan over a thread and know which is what.

There are some people around here who use the quote element instead of the pre element to markup longer passages of code. Please donīt. Itīs code not a quote.

I'm 50/50 on that one andreas. I agree to a degree, but those longer passages of code, do stand out better when they are quoted.

it beats quoting inside of the quoting ;-)

I believe that even longer code elements do stand out due to the fixed font. Anyway, that code thing wasnīt my main concern.

What I really dislike is not using the quote element when you are quoting.
