1) Goto alexa.com
2) Type in your site - example.com
3) Click the button on the left that says traffic detail

Hiya All! My First time here. After reading this thread, i typed Alexa's URL. However, i am getting a list of Robots/user agent's list. Is this because i have the Google ToolBar installed?

What's the solution, if i wanna have both the ToolBars?

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, India_max. I'm getting the same thing with IE with the Google toolbar, but no problem with Opera, with no toolbars at all.

That traffic graph is very strange. I have been writing down my alexa rank every couple of days for about 6months It has improved steadly from 75 000 to 50 000 (mainly because of my instalation of the toolbar I think!) but that graph has me as low as 200 000 and as high as 20 000 very strange.

Get downloading that toolbar and we can push WW into the top 500.

Nice tool. I checked my traffic rank vs. my competitors. Not bad, but still a long way to go to get to top 1.000.

I think webmasterworld is way undervalued, most of us have google and not alexa toolbar installed...

I haven't played with Alexa in a while, and I think the rankings are a bit goofy. When comparing sites for which I know the traffic, I find the rankings are completely inconsistent. I assume this has to do with relatively low Alexa toolbar penetration, and perhaps demographic differences in Alexa users vs. total users.

Hmmm, maybe Brett should have a contest or promo to push all WebmasterWorld members to run the Alexa toolbar. If you combined a high percent of visitors running Alexa with WebmasterWorld's strong traffic, I think the WebmasterWorld rank would be REALLY impressive.

I removed the Alexa bar and now only have the Google bar. I found that the Alexa bar had an impact on the download speed I was getting.

sounds like i was one of a few people to try installing the bar after reading this post.

it's interesting, but unlike the google bar, it seems that it takes a lot of information and provides a nice revenue model for them but doesn't offer much in return.

in particular from their privacy statement:

ALEXA'S TOOLBAR SERVICE COLLECTS AND STORES INFORMATION ABOUT THE WEB PAGES YOU VIEW, THE DATA YOU ENTER IN ONLINE FORMS AND SEARCH FIELDS, AND, WITH VERSIONS 5.0 AND HIGHER, THE PRODUCTS YOU PURCHASE ONLINE WHILE USING THE TOOLBAR SERVICE.

... the data you enter in online forms, the products you purchase?

and searchs from the toolbar will "often take you to website details page at amazon".

think i'm going to turn it off unless anyone can suggest a good reason for keeping it ('part from bumping up my and webmasterworld's positions)

In a recent /. poll, about half the people used Windows as their main OS, last time I checked o_O. Odd o_O.

(I, myself, use Linux, and have Moz on windows when I need it, with IE as my "spyware browser", which I have googlebar/alexa on)
