Brett, I think you answered this once before but I can't find it.

Is up time with westhost good, great, out of this world fantastic!!! and - do they allow SSI via .htm and .html rather than .shtml?

So, I love traxis, I admit it - and I'm looking for a host that I can keep everything as it is under...

New boards look good...

Many thanks
Steve

It was down once for 8 hours in 98 for a full system upgrade. I've not known it to be done since then. Outstanding uptime.

Oh, the htm/html question. You can add html/htm ssi support via htaccess.
.htaccess file:
AddType text/html .htm
AddHandler server-parsed .htm

Brett,

Is it safe to assume you use the .htaccess file for your sites on WestHost? And, within the file structure, where does it go? Sorry I know you and several other people have addressed this.

Thanks
Steve

All this site right here is of course 100% cgi served out of ssi. Just drop a ".htaccess" file in the directory with:

AddType text/html .htm
AddHandler server-parsed .htm

in it, and ssi's are enabled.

fyi: The box that sew is on went down for reboot today. First time in ages. The last time I looked, the uptime was six months.

The reboot. Well, I think it was my fault (sorry Westhost).

If you got double 'linkage' [searchengineworld.com] reports today from the links tracker - it went down right in the middle of it - that is why.

Are there any "hidden fees" one should know about before singing up?

With the recent upgrade (about a week ago) Westhost has doubled the space available. I have been very pleased with their service. They respond to every request within 24 hours and usually quicker than that. I found out about Westhost here. I figure if WebmasterWorld is using them, I'll use them.

Been with em a month or so.. and so far I'm impressed.

The only 'extra' (and it wasn't hidden) was a one-time fee to set up extended logs for referrer info. I think it was about $10.

I think the range of functionality they offer (even in the basic packages) is going to keep me happily playing in my sandpit for a long time.

Do note that Westhost only allows Mysql acess via telnet. Also, their e-mail control panel does not (in my opinion) set up additional mailboxes as easily as some others.

Other than that, I've been pretty pleased with them for the one site I have there. I recently added another site at Pair based on the recommendations of many on this board and have been very pleased. Westhost is a little less expensive. If you do sign with Westhost, be sure to give credit to WebmasterWorld in the sign-up form - I think they give the referrer (Brett) some free time in return.

Woohoo, finally made it over to westhost. Why didn't I do it sooner? I am so much happier with the response time and additional control I have over the web site. All the neat little Apache .htaccess tweaks mentioned in this forum are available to use. :)
