It's intentional. We had a member who loved typing entire rows of exclaimation points and using 3 points all the time. So, I threw it on the filter. More professional :-)

But what if we had a question about dBase IV? One of my favorite quotes came from their user manual. I'll paraphrase, since I don't have it around any more:

One question mark prints a line to the output. Two question marks prints a line, but doesn't put a carriage return at the end. And as an added bonus, three question marks prints to the printer!
