Cancellation of email notifications

how do you stop following a thread once you've lost interest?

Say I'm following a thread: "how many moderators does it take to change a light bulb".

I've posted to the thread, and indicated at the time I posted that I want email notifications whenever a new message is added.

Eventually, I discover the answer is 7, and soon lose interest in the thread.

How can I switch off receiving notifications? There doesn't seem to be an option.

I thought it would be as easy as "unflagging" a thread is (well done), but it doesn't appear to be.

Find the thread where you replied. Select owner edit on your post and turn off email notification.

Fortunately, a moderator contacted me when I asked the same question. Perhaps you could contact the moderator for the category you posted in. As a suggestion, I would like to see a "unsubscribe" link in the outgoing e-mails. And perhaps the content of the new messages posted so we do not have to necessarily visit WW to see the thread. This could be beneficial if load ever becomes an issue.

Alrighty then. However, in the example I'm looking at, there is no owner edit button on my post.

And I quote:

Have I mysteriously become a non owner of my own message? Perhaps the edit ability only exists soon after a message is posted, and then gets lost after a while.

I agree. There should be an "unsubscribe" link in the email notification, and if the contents of the new message was also added, that would be ideal. I'm sure Brett is jotting down these suggestions as we speak (hopeful glance).

This ties in with the discussion in [webmasterworld.com...]

The owner edit only remains active for 4 hours after you place your post in the thread. All you could do is make anothr post then go to owner edit. You are probably better of to contact a mod and ask them to turn off your notifications.

It would be usefull to have something in the control pannel where you could un-select your notifications. similar to flags removing flags.

Goodness. For forum software which is otherwise so great, this seems like a major oversight.

I wonder if Brett can configure it as we've suggested, or whether it just isn't possible...

This has been discussed before. Must be a big deal for it not to have been changed before now.
