I love the idea of a conference to network with other webmasters, but I have not 'made it' as a webmaster yet, and I can't afford to send myself to the conference, and I am not a good enough salesman to convince my company to send me. I'd love to attend, but it's lookin' kinda gloomy for my chances. Is there any plans to have one in the U.S. sometime?

Sorry there will never be a PubCon in the US :(

But don't get depressed just yet... There is the annual BarCon (http://www.barconference.com/) that's held in the US.. Discussions about possible dates and locations will likely start after pubcon02 wraps up..

How short are you? Could I glue fake fur all over your face and stuff you in a dog carrier to take on the plane?

I am not a good enough salesman to convince my company to send me.

Work on it!

Try breaking it down into numbers and value. That's what I did.

"Okay, boss - remember X problem? These guys helped me fix it. Remember Y problem? This guys helped me fix it. Remember Z situation? I figured out what to do because of these guys."

(dramatic pause)

"So. It'll cost you approximately $700 to send me to this thing. If our customer acquisition cost is $70 per customer ..." not actual cost, ha ha, example only "... then I only need to snag an extra 10 customers to make this trip pay for itself. Knowing how many extra customers we've already snagged because of their help, you'd be a fool NOT to send me."

(dramatic pause, much waving of arms)

Boss: "Okay, go for it. But don't tell people I'm sending you to London for a "conference" or I'll catch heck from everyone else."

"Deal!" And then I booked the trip (non-refundable) before he could change his mind.

Otherwise, beg all your friends and family to buy your ticket between them as an early Xmas present. :)

stuntdubl,

Go as a human advertisement. Sell banner space on your clothing. Should be a good revenue generator.

Oh yeah, no pop ups! :)

Ha Ha....great idea keymaster...wanna buy some space? Prime time on my back is still available. If not, I may consider the fur idea, as I am not really that big of a guy. As for the company paying for it.....logic doesn't quite apply to them.....I'd explain that these people have helped solve basically EVERY problem I've had with the site, and they'd ask how much it cost. If I tell them it was free then he would ask why I'd want to pay for it when I can get it free. My boss is a marketing dinosaur......he has a database of 9,000+ opt-in loyal customers that I'm going to actually have a hard time to convince him he needs to send out MORE than 3 text e-mail promotions per year. Sheesh....maybe I shouldn't have asked about riding in the luggage....better yet.....are you hiring?
