Changing the order of results

Greetings,

As a relatively new user on this site, I'm spending much of my time searching here for information. As such, I've been using the search tool quite a bit.

A couple of questions:

1) How do I see the date of the posts returned? (Most just show the year. I'd like to know how recently this year...)

2) How can I specify the order of results? (eg sort by date etc)

Primarily I'm interested in finding new material which I haven't read before.

By the way, what order are the results in?

Also can the system show the entire date rather than just the year?
