Grades of membership

Can anyone explain the levels of membership on this board? I see people with "Preferred Membership", "Full Membership", "Junior Membership" etc and don't see any direct correlation between their levels and number of posts/length of membership etc.

How does one advance up the scale, is it a butt-kissing thing to the sysop or who donates the most via PayPal or some other obscure factor?

I sent an email asking for this info some months ago but it went unanswered.
