I was going to, but I didn't feel like looking up color hex codes at the moment. One of these days, my shades of blue will become shades of green & burgundy & tan... (Maybe I'll leave dark blue as the header bar color though)

Which reminds me, anyone have a fav font face that I don't have listed in the default font set? I'll need the exact name of course.

Changing font sizes, colors, and faces appears to be the most popular item.

Would it be possible for us to create our own style sheets and reference them in our profiles so we could edit this stuff easier and lessen the burden on your servers?

I look a very long time at putting style sheets in place here md - just for that reason of ease of member customization. I worked up several prototypes that functioned on CSS.

I decided not too because of the serious compatibility problems involved. I don't feel I ignore those issues in this environment where we have members from all over the world using every platform and browser imaginable. Also, if the code is distributed, that would mean it would be exposed to everything imagineable. I never want to be in the position of turning away a user because they are unable to use the site as a result of incompatable software choices.

I felt it would require 60-90 days of labor to get it right. I've yet to see a site anywhere on the web that has done css properly in a universal compatibility environment. Even then, I would not have been statisfied with the level of compatibility, the look, or the function. The only way to degrade gracefully and universally, is to use fonts/tables everywhere.

In order to support user style sheets at all, would require putting optional class statements in all major sections of the generated html code. Those are the type of tests I ran. The code bloat was significant, as well as making the code more unmanageable and cluttered.

That said, there are two new options on member profiles to insert code onto the page. I feel there are a few possibilities there for members to create their own external CSS style sheets.

I seem to have one problem with the skins.

I am trying to find the bgcolor for the two top bars in the view profile.

Can anyone tell me how to change, either, the bgcolor (pref) or the font color I can't seem to find the necessary attribute.

There is the info bar and the legend bar? (those are on the "general" tab of the edit skins utility)

when you click on "user profile" in a thread. The two bars under the nav bar which contain the member name and email address.

Did those two "bars" suddenly "fix themselves".

I made a custom skin the first day. Left all the colors the same... just added the top navigation area to the bottom.

No thank you. Little stuff like I could go a year and never run into it. Of the 40-50 html related bugs I fixed on the system since the upgrade, I'd bet 35 of them were because of moz/ie's error recovery (lack thereof).

I have just been playing around trying to get rid of all the yellows and seeing what I can do with it. Keep having to go back because things become unreadable but it is coming along.

It is a really amazing option. I am quite intrigued.

Well, I started out wanting to get font size, color, and face control into the hands of the members. Not all of us find the defaults attractive. It kinda grew from there.

I must admit it has given me a bunch of ideas for projects I have. Just being able to rid myself of the bright yellow mouse over colour was refreshing.

It adds an interesting insight into user friendliness. You could even do comparison on most popular colour for those using custom skins etc. For some reason it is just one of those things that I never thought about.

Well, just got one made... It's actually kinda hard to keep track of which color goes where, until after you've changed it (sometimes with less than pleasing results, hehe).

Interesting. Of course, I'll have to tinker with it a bit more, now that I've started...

Please let me know if you create anything radical sheik or cool. I can put it on the default skin list drop down there "skin by user X".

I'd originally wanted about a dozen defaults to start with, but never got them created ;-) too busy finishing code.

...if I change my skin, then I have to change my Intranet forum color scheme, then my cover will be blown :( ...sometimes choice is a bad thing...

I dunno if you'd call shades of green "radical" or "chic," but you could take a look at mine... I seem to have everything sorted out now. (Radical sheiks have fallen out of favor in the US lately... ;) )
