Brett,

I wondered after reading all the threads on this site for the last couple months why there is not a specific forum to gain links? I know it sounds crazy but what if you had a forum where people could post “theme” questions like: “I sell small green widgets and anybody that sells large blue widgets that would like to exchange links please stickymail me.” I think this would be a great service to all. Have I had too much beer tonight or what (Google Index does strange things to me) :)

I think the concern with a forum like this would be likelihood for heavy self promotion.

That is dstanovic's idea.
Allow the spiders to follow the links but regular users would completely ignore the forum.
I like it.

I agree but people could not post their URL's just like in any other area of the forums. I think it would work as long as it was planned/moderated well.

No I believe if you can find other sites within the same theme as yours not some type of FFA it works very well. I know I will spend hours on my different sites picking and choosing who I would link to and who I will let link to me. I think it could help quite a few people out, and Webmaster World is a quality site that I think could pull it off without it getting out of hand.
