I know what I did 6966 days ago, and did I subscribe?, was I .... oh .... Notification Bell I-'cone'.

But if I do Mark(Mark Who?) All Read it clears it, 2 minutes later Mark(z) are back. Is Zuk doing it, again?

All I see is the most recent 25 notifications, with the ones at the top only the most recent. Is that your list?

<19 hour ago> Tangor and others commented in a post WebmasterWorld ai....
....
<5931 days ago> commented in a thread you follow...

I did 5931 days ago, I also just marked them all READ. All went normal, and then...

3-4 clicks later around the site, let along 24 hours later, that RED number is up to 29. Every day, how many times did I read that thread 5931 days ago?

...for god sake 5931 days ago Sgt_Kickaxe was not even a member yet - all though I beat the score of followers, I got 2 Sgt_Kickaxe got one.

No pun intended.

i find the notifications there to be unreliable so i don't depend on the presence or absence of red flags.
i know - not helpful if you are OCD-ish...

..OCD-ish...

...Before the Viking ship reached Norway, all Vikings were "OUT".. The Dog leaped ashore... and so the SAGA Goes...

The Viking Wolf, new show on Netflix-ish...

i know - not helpful if you are OCD-ish...
Are, we all are.

@tangor
...Is that your list?

Not really, top are what I started/someone commented/ and such, then OCD-ish kicks in.

There are a few settings that may be able to help sort those oulde notifications. Try to see if you might have accidentally subscribed to one (or more) of the forums: [webmasterworld.com...]

If you might have dropped a flag on a thread you found useful, to refer to it again - you can view and manage the flags from this page: [webmasterworld.com...]

I found it helps to mark them as read. The notifications rely on your settings cookies as far as I know. Mine do not stay red after I've looked at them.

I found it helps to mark them as read.---

did

NARA

Mark all as read supposed to Mark them all as read, since no one reply to those messages in 6000+ days they should not be popping up as unread or so, see what I mean here?

Jookies or not.... maybe bring back Custom Style Sheet, old school for OCD-sh People? --- ;)

It might be just Messaging not put the way I OCD about, but then last post in /Databases was in? even if I mark'em All as Read....

The way to address the issue is to NOT use/view notifications? :)

All this section does is show activity on the site. Most days I just VIEW the CURRENT activity on site by reading the most recent section.

[webmasterworld.com...]

On the other hand, Notifications DOES remind me of *way* earlier posts that have picked up "reactions" or "comments" long after the fact and I can then investigate, if desired, what that new content might be.

Aside: The "oldest" I see in Notifications is 23 days back. If you are seeing 6000 then perhaps you might delete the WW cookie and start over.

Second thought: This notification area is NOT all that important, and might be a "feature" not required by rank and file.

However, if it is KEPT, perhaps something might be done to allow the USER to DELETE past notifications and keep only those most recent?

I am not talking about "View All Notifications" SCREEN, all though that link could be turned into a 100% width button in the drop-down.
<a href="#" class="btn btn-primary btn-full-width">View All Notifications</a>

But a Notifications drop-down in the top right corner and OCD-sh behavior assigned to glyphicon-bell:
<span style="font-size: 19px" class="glyphicon glyphicon-bell"></span>

We're talking about the same thing... the "bell". What I like about it is that it reveals WHO is reacting/commenting with my posts/threads. Kind of useful in that regard.

I guess OCD is in the eye of the beholder.
