When I posted this message:
[webmasterworld.com ]
There was no website image thumbnail showing down at the bottom of the post, as there is now.
I assume that is an auto system of this software.
Is there a way to avert that?
Thank you.
###WELL, I placed the message number in the link, but it seems this software will only take you to the top of the page, so the message number is 5078150. Or my browser [Firefox] is playing tricks on me. I can use rtf and IE11 and go straight to the post with that URL I placed in my post.

the actual link created by the forum software is:
https://www.webmasterworld.com/r-v6.cgi?f=19&d=5078161&url=https://www.webmasterworld.com/foo/5078021.htm#msg5078150

probably due to an encoding issue, the document fragment identifier isn't passed by the browser in the request to the redirect script and is lost by the browser by the time the actual page has been rendered.

Some users have learned by sad experience that if the fragment link is essential, you may need to put the whole thing into [ code ] markup and trust the reader to copy-and-paste appropriately. (At WebmasterWorld, unlike some venues, you can safely trust to this.)

It seems the OP was asking how to avoid adding in the featured image. If that is the concern, you can preview your post before submitting the post and you will see a radio checkbox: Remove featured images for urls? Alternatively, you could Report the post in question (click that Msg# dropdown menu) and request that someone remove the image.

The #hashtag thing in URLs does not work here.

I obviously was not paying close attention to all controls and missed that remove images checkbox. Sorry about that. Actually, I have also been noticing some oversized images really mess up a thread, but that is another topic.

Thank you for the responses. And I'll try to pay closer attention in future to available controls.

Haven't bothered with the "extras" since they are active by default. Figure that is the intent of management and do not wish to be counter... It simply is not a big deal to me.

What's weird is how we humans seem to be going into one huge circle.

Many hundreds of years ago it was only through images, like a kind of comic strip, that humans were given information though media techniques, not actually hearing the words. Most humans couldn't read.

Then reading got spread around nicely and so simply reading text was fine.

Now it seems, for some odd reason, the Net has brought back the need for images. Videos and images seem to be an absolute must on the Net. Frankly, I don't much care for all sorts of either, but that's just me. But to ignore trends isn't so smart, so I pay attention to what others are paying attention to, and images and videos are all the craze on the Net and now even in magazines and print journalism uses many more images than they used to use.

Humans are weird. And I already know I am one of the weirdest of the weird, so no need to hit me with that.

Humans, like most creatures on this dear, flawed planet, are visually oriented as the first line of defense, mating, or observing the weather. :)

Back when I was running BBS services in the early 1980s my system had more users than others simply because I figured out how to serve images on 640x480 screens and not take "forever" to do so. Pictures are, as the adage says, worth more than a thousand words.

Meanwhile, we have several (at least TWO) generations that grew up on media images (newspapers, tv, movies) and the path of least resistance (ie, reading!) will usually win out. Not so much a circle, just a reaffirmation of genetic coding.

That's good. Very good. I suspect you are closer to the truth than I am. Yep, that gets a 'like' thingy!

jimji ... click on the MSG# button and "report message" and just add that request. The mods are very helpful in that regard. And, Mods, once done you can delete this message as well!

Yes, I did that, too. But I am just realizing that somebody doesn't trust us. Maybe I should go to Austin in February and complain. Problem is I am not allowed to fly and a boat takes too long. But I seem to remember being told around here that the king can do as he likes, right? Seems there is a queen on the throne, too, if my research was done properly.
