I don't know if this is new, but I just noticed the follower mention.

Is there a way to know who is following ?

you should be able to see your followers on your profile page [webmasterworld.com]
for some reason they aren't appearing on your profile.
you can see what they should look like by clicking on another profile (most profiles?) with followers.

Good grief. At least two-thirds of the names on my Followers list are people I've simply never heard of. How did they figure out that you can Follow people when _I_ didn’t know it was an option? :( Or is there a glitch where spammers don't get removed from Follower lists even while they themselves are bye-bye gone?

That big bold + next to your name - that's how you follow people.

Like phranque said, this is a work in progress. Trying to figure out new feed ideas for people to follow and stay engaged with topics and people they care about.

when this feature first appeared i discovered i was following people and knew for sure that i hadn't intended to do so.
i also have fat fingers.
probably easy on mobile devices to follow someone when you meant to see their profile.

Oh. Big fat +. How long has that been there? Weeks? Months? I'm fairly confident it isn’t years, though I am fully capable of going years before noticing something. Yes, it definitely explains the mystery followers.

If I counted right, my current total is a power of 2, so that’s plausible. But I note that one decidedly non-newbie name is listed twice--there don't seem to be any invisible characters creating alternate identities--so that might be a glitch to fix.

Yeah, sure, experiment on me :) On one long-inactive forum, my title was Crash Test Dummy because the administrator hauled me in to try things out whenever she made major changes.

Since most of my Followers are newish I got the idea that they might have thought the + meant "thanks" or something. They can see 'Likes' but they can see no way to offer a Like until they have posted more than a few times. That would likely explain lucy24's similar mix of Followers.

Hm. Maybe the same should be enacted for Follow? No point in Following people before you know you'll be sticking around.

Never noticed before, went and looked. Turns out I have a few I don't recognize, but there is one I do know very well, and is listed 4 times! Makes the numbers a bit unusual. :)

There is a Brett T. who must be a spammer, because he follows me twice ! ... That being said, only two users, seem to be "real" , the others I never heard about them ...
