"In 2002, in response to growing sentiment over the complete collapse of the Alberta economy resulting from Canada ratifying the Kyoto Accord, representitives from around the province met in Edmonton to declare separation from Canada. On July 1 2003 the Alberta government declares unilateral separation, and this day is observed as "Independance Day."
