I actually have all the decorations turned off ... gets in the way of the gab ... that's the important work of Webmasterworld!

(There are quite a few badges possible last time I looked...)

What was that movie line?

"Badges? We don't need no steekin' badges!"

Okay ... you made me look.

Dimitri ... welcome to the top 25.

As John Houseman used to say: "you earned it" (slightly paraphrased)

ah tangor great, thanks, that made me check my system preferences ... and thereby i resolved an ongoing issue i've had for years!

category view was set to 'categories only' ... once i changed it i could see the forum index properly! i even posted about this a couple of years ago and no-one could work out why the page wasn't displaying properly ... now i know, it WAS displaying properly, as per my system preferences!

Just saying
Nah. We can all look at the numbers under your name, look at the exceedingly favorable posts:votes ratio, and draw our own conclusions :) (There has been a time or two when a brand-new member must have concurrently created a sock puppet in order to upvote all their posts, but it isn't fooling anyone. Real numbers come through loud and clear.)

This number could have been higher, ... some of my answers brought the exact answer to posters, from time to time there is a "thank you", but rarely vote, especially in the PHP category :)

Oh, but then we would need to start using AI and automate the process, hmmm... I get a good number of "Thank you" notes that don't count too, I know what you mean about that, but it is not supposed to be a rating system. I appreciate an honest "thank you" more than an anonymous vote that I can't guess who proffered or why. Beware of ascribing values to the wrong metrics.

To me the like vote is for the content of the message, not who said it. In most cases ideas are what gets attention. :)

This is my target. Then once achieved, i'll be able to focus on posting "my site is down", "my site is up", "my earning is down", "my earning is up".

Don’t forget the panicked “Search Engine {Name} is broken!” if you encounter the same glitch on two consecutive requests.

Heh ...!

Next target now in sight ... :)

With all respect intended ... WW is one of the few places I ever wanted to expend any time and effort on an on-going basis. And have done so with good heart and whatever I can offer since 2005...thick and thin...good and bad...

My thanks to all the kiddies for allowing me to play and be part of this continuing experiment in group communication and knowledge share. Numbers wise I'm a poor piddling #18 ... I am not in it for the numbers but for the friends, the tech, and the daily dose of real life on the web among real life webmasters.

So I suppose I am brazenly dedicated to being a member of Webmasterworld!

The number of posts is not, necessarily, proportional to the usefulness of the post. If I may use myself as an example, I see I have been a member longer than anyone who has posted on this thread before me. I only post when I believe it is extremely relevant. I have approximately 2,300 posts in 19 years and 93 likes (last I knew). That does not make my posts any less important or informative than tangor or phranque or lucy24 (just used for examples). Bottom line, likes are not a good metric for the quality of information delivered. They are nothing more than an ego stroking (a statement some may not appreciate, but we all crave recognition.) That said, do not forget to like this post.

As some may recall, back when the "vote" thing was proposed then put in place, I was not for it. I am still of that opinion!

As for gab ... sorry. I do have diarrhea of the keyboard. I'll take some Kaopectate. Might slow me down. (sigh)

likes are not a good metric
The biggest problem with looking at likes : posts is that “like” was only instituted a few years ago. So people like you who have been around since the dawn of time will never, ever catch up :( Longtime members know this, but newly arrived members may not realize it.

Obligatory:
Badges? We ain't got no badges! We don't need no badges! I don't have to show you any stinking badges!
---The Treasure of the Sierra Madre.

...................

The problem with 'likes' is that they are equal one unto each, the result being, most often, the mobile vulgus (fickle crowd) rather than some fantasised wisdom of crowds. For popularity demagoguery will almost always trump rhetoric.

............

The wonderful thing about tangors
Is tangors are wonderful things!
Their tops are made out of rubber
Their bottoms are made out of springs!
They're bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy
Pun, pun, pun, pun, pun!
But the most wonderful thing about tangors is
He's the only one...
---apologies to all and sundry
