As many of you know, we've been adding various new and improved aspects to WebmasterWorld, and one that I wanted to mention today is the WebmasterWorld member profile. If you're a web developer, programmer, agency, or seeking employment, and want to offer your services to a wider community, you may wish to update your profile to reflect your offering.
Access your profile edit from "My WebmasterWorld" drop down, and "Profile."

Thanks
Neil

yes i'd noticed the 'hire a' links at the bottom of the page a while ago.

and although i've no interest in getting clients myself, i think it is a great addition.

What would be handy, especially in some threads, is members country and general site topic listed in the left column under username. To combat spam this could be (optionally) selected from pre-defined dropdown lists when filling in profile info.

Profile info already has an optional country code drop down for members to select.

However, for SPAM, mods can see the actual IP, country code and flag so we already know if they match or not and spammers or profile builders never make it far enough to be listed in the member services section as that requires a full membership. There must be participation in order to get yourself listed so people that just join and post a few LOLs to get listed, that won't happen. :)

I was wondering whether this would be a problem. Even though I work from the production office in Bulgaria, I do work for a German GmbH and do work on a global SEO level, so I prefer to stick with the German flag (not that I have anything against Bulgaria, it's a great place to work and live if you are in the digital sector).

When I see those long, long lists I'm always tempted to pick some random country that nobody has ever heard of. (Canada? Where the heck is that?) Or I could add to the confusion by picking the country of my birth ...

I just thought it would make it easier - as I see a number of posts by people requesting country and general topic where such and such results are seen - or something weird happens to a certain category of websites. I see now there are countries listed on the left - a top level category would be handy eg. "Health Related" or "Automotive Related" etc. Just an idea :-)

While I do appreciate the idea No5needinput, I suggest against it. I`ve seen many times the argument "but you are not in my vertical, hence you are wrong" . The more anonymity we have, the better we can provide opinions that will not be taken with a grain of salt. As for the countries, I'm OK with that as the question of GEO location of traffic is a common one.

Only change to my profile was to add the country location. As a quick visual reminder of who is where it helps make some replies/conversations more specific.
