As many of you know we’ve been developing the exciting, new responsive design for WebmasterWorld for some time. Today, we’re officially announcing it’s out of beta, and now live.

This project has been a massive undertaking, not just because we’re switching to responsive that you can see and use on your smartphone, but for all the other changes that are under-the-hood to make it all work. In summary, we took on the new design, we’ve moved servers, and we’ve taken the site to https. All done to help you, and the community here at WebmasterWorld.

We still have many more tweaks and developments to come, many to improve under-the-hood operations to keep the site clutter-free, and to help you discuss hot news topics and issues that relate to you and your work, whether that be in-house, agency, or independent.

Thank you for your patience: The project has had it teething problems, I won’t deny, but all the time the team has worked endlessly to keep it all running. I’d like to thank Neil Marshall (Engine), Bill Atchison (IncrediBILL), Thom Craver and all those who helped participate in making the new/improved WebmasterWorld.com website.

I’m Feeling Lucky Today!

Looks great Jim... it's also faster, which makes it much more appealing to use.

The site is certainly taking shape and I know it has been a huge undertaking.

In IE I get a popup on every page I visit (Only secure content is displayed)
I looked at the source code visible to all and see a possible cause.

Piwik - code is it secure?

href="//cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/highlight.js/8.4/styles/default.min.css

This looks like it defaults to the non secure css. I checked and they have it in both https and http. I think from the code the http is being displayed, but I could be wrong.

Footer possible fixes
[webmasterworld.com...] This seems to be a bad url
[webmasterworld.com...] just a 301 to secure but I don't like 301's from my code from http to https

Congrats Jim, Neil, and Bill. Special thanks to iBill who took the good - but old - code and ran with it. It has never looked better and the new server is significantly faster.

What I appreciate more than anything is that I get WW content just fine, have the advantage of the responsive design and.... it still run with NO JS (NoScript/FF37+).

I just don't do JS in my personal browsing, so I truly do appreciate that changes as significant as we have witnessed degrade gracefully for old curmudgeons like myself. That's not only a class act, that's smart!

Thank you to those who put forth the hard work, the website is much more visually appealing! The colors, images, spacing, etc all look greatly improved; I especially love the fact that the site uses up most of the width of my screen. :)

@bwnbwn, the mixed content warning is indeed coming from the code that tries to include piwik using http instead of https. Someone should fix that.

As for this:

href="//cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/highlight.js/8.4/styles/default.min.css

That's a protocol-relative URL (it begins with // as opposed to http:// or [)....] Browsers will load the resource based on the protocol used for the current page. So that is not defaulting to non-secure as you suggested.

Congratulations to Bill, Neil, Jim, and others behind the scenes for this major accomplishment, all the more impressive because the changes were made and tested in tandem with the old site as it continued to run. I'm very pleased that the essence of Brett's old site, which has been a nexus for a lot of us, has been preserved... and I'm looking forward to those "tweaks and developments to come". Thanks all.

I've been playing with the beta version of this redesign for a while now. Glad that everyone else gets to see what has been worked on. Hat tip to iBill for all the tireless work to bring WebmasterWorld to this level!

On a project such as this, it's almost more interesting what you didn't do as what you did do. It looks to me that wise choices were made. Congrats, but more importantly, thank you.

Thanks to all that helped improve the website...it works great, even though it has taken a little bit of time for me to get used to it! I look forward to seeing more tweaks to it in the future :)

Kudos to bill, neil and jim, and iBill for sticking with Brett's code and bringing it forward

You "lot" are responsible for a great community that has made such a difference to us "old school" and "newbie" lot

few creases to iron out but looks and functions superb

Extra kudos for Brett for the original (and still under the hood system).

The more I use the new version, the more I like it. It was especially nice watching it come into focus, so happy that it is for all now, and I'm looking forward to the continuing evolution. Great job! I know a lot has gone into this. It was worth the wait.

Might be my ISP or just my geo location on the grid, but anything coming from cloudflare servers takes forever to load and most often hangs-up the page. I've moved a couple clients because of it

The conversion was so seamless, that I forgot all about it, until I sent a link to someone in my office and he yelled across the office "Wow shri, they've finally gone responsive". :)

Well done!
