You will need both your WebmasterWorld login plus the Apache user name and password to gain access to the beta site. For some reason a couple of people were unable to get Apache authorization. If authorization fails, we apologize but we don't know what's causing it and can't fix it at this time. It must stay in place to keep crawlers out of the new site.

nice new look people. My comments (on the a msg page, laptop, WinXP - Firefox 35.0.1):

I get the yellow "Status : Welcome back le_gber" bar twice at the top, once after the purple Home / Forums Index / Local breadcrumbs / WebmasterWorld Community Center and once after the grey Forum Library, Charter, Moderators Lawman

on the right the collapseForum doesn't work - ie Forum Info box doesn't collapse, all the other right hand side box do.

my comments on ipad mini iOS 8.1.3 - safari

in portrait mode, inside a forum (ie WebmasterWorld Supporters) I can only see the first 5 columns not the last 3 of the thread list. I can move the table sideways to see the hidden ones.

in portrait mode, "Post New Topic" and "Forum Options" are on two lines

in landscape mode, I can see all but the last column in the forum thread list.

FYI, the forum thread lists are scrollable, they're not intended to fit everything on a smaller screen so you can swipe back and forth.

On some tables I've tried to move everything most important to see to the left so it's usually visible.

There's also some color coding on some lines so recent post threads, where you're replied, will show with a green line and a green checkbox to make them easier to spot.

Likewise, in stickymail, we put the same green checkbox and line coloring on stickymail that you replied to so we used the same metaphor for both places.

Basically the green checkbox and line color mean "REPLIED"

Also, front page stories are now shown as a STAR on the new threads column. If it's unread, you'll see it as a RED STAR, combining unread red ball and the star, something the old site never highlighted in the forum lists before.

Other subtle UI clues if you look ;)

I like the thread view look a lot, nice and clean.

I usually enter WebmasterWorld via the recent post page and that looks very crowded now, maybe more vertical space to match the look of the thread view.

Otherwise nice, evolution not revolution.

We tried to rethink some of it and make things in the site more uniform and then make it more inline with other modern sites where possible so people just joining might find things more common. Not sure how well we did, but I think it's improving with room for more improvements.

The big problem was the amount of embedded HTML that had to be removed to get WebmasterWorld prepared for HTML 5 and CSS, that was the biggest issue. Just getting rid of all the font tags was a major effort and there's still more of them everywhere, it's like whack-a-mole with fonts

Then we retooled some of the UI and added more information in the thread index pages, such as featured posts now now show as a STAR on the icon which there was no clue before. Your replies in stickymail or threads your post in show as a green line with the check mark icon, things like that are site wide to make the visual metaphors the same everywhere.

I think the pinned and flagged threads are much easier to spot now, vs. the old site as the icons are buried in with the thread title and things like that. Also, on a post page, the thread titles are now the big text on the page, not repeating the forumn name which isn't as useful to know as the thread title. Lot's of little things and the devil is in the details.

Hopefully it's better.

just an aesthetic thing...
on the recent posts page the headers don't match up with the columns... they are all different widths. makes it a bit confusing if you want to sort a column

i know this is probably just personal taste, but it would be good if you could make the actual conversation text bigger (the messages inside the threads). at the moment you've got bigger or bolder text in the avatar box and the metadata bar directly above the message -- bit wierd. it should be the other way around, with the message text the biggest, because that's the stuff that people want to read.

Once I turned off the awards, the message layout made more sense (as wide as the longest member name in the column).

I did try the top menu idem CLASSIC and nothing happened. Also still have a problem with some top menu items opening new tabs in a desktop browser... not sure what is happening on phones/tablets since I don have either.

Also, has the number of recent post messages slection been deleted? I do like to look at the last 100...

Overall Impression is very good , very nice work "team" ..
Noticed the same thing as was commented upon by tangor, the new version of "recent posts" page has lost the links at the base of the page which allowed one to look at posts "further" back than the last 25 posts..makes it hard to go back and read a thread which is now maybe at number 26 to 100, which one may have "skimmed" and which one wants to go back and read again, if the page has not been "upped" to be in the first 25..

The purple needs dialing back a bit ( use a less saturated/strong hue ) ..it distracts from the posts ( I hit the new "beta" on desktop, widescreen, the right side column with the strong purple headers was too much for me , so I shrunk the page width immediately to lose the right side, I'm now using the site in a seperate "tablet size" window, with no right side column, and thus no strong purple headers and distractive text about "featured" and "my threads" etc it is much better ;)))..the right side comumn is OK for those who want it, but even for them I'd dial back the strength of the purple in the headers and the buttons at the top of the page..

Typefaces and font weights are good, clear, easy to read ( my "artists" eyes will each be 60 years old next birthday )..Nice touch with the light blue highlighting around the "quick reply box"..classy :)..it is indeed the "little things" that get the appreciative smile..

The OP post background was a light pink colour previously, now is light blue, I know that light blue fits the current "theme", but you might want to bring back the pink for OP for those whose eyes have problems with "low contrast"..or not? my eyes don't have any contrast problems, so perhaps I'm overthinking it ;) ..( BTW , I always left WebmasterWorld in "classic theme", but I know some used "custom", will they still have the "custom" option, you may get some "flack" if they don't )..You may also want to keep a pink or orange box option as an "attention getter" for important messages..

**I see in the message "dropdown" options there is twitter, facebook, G+ ( for the moment they do nothing ) I do hope that we won't be seeing G+ live links making their way back to WebmasterWorld and allowing G ( or anyone else outside of WebmasterWorld ) to track who is saying what via "calls" like the G+ buttons ( thankfully removed ) used to do..( yeah I know that the page calls to googleapis anyway, and if we block that call, the site here is unusable ), but.. the G+ buttons etc need to stay gone..**

Other than that **reservation**..Great work "team"..I liked the layout and look of the place before ( I turned off the badges, I'm keeping them turned off )..I like this better..Leaving the option to switch to "old" or "classic" view was thoughtful of you, but I'll be staying with the "beta" in "tablet size" even on desktop..:)

I'll take a look with an actual tablet and a phone maybe over the weekend..still very busy..

Ps..I just hit "preview"..You might want to look at the padding, needs a bit more padding in all the areas except the actual input box in preview, all the text is hitting the sides of the "preview div" and the other divs, except the nav divs

Noticed something else which may be OS / browser combo specific ..

When I post and hit submit, if the thread is longer than just the one page ( like this thread ) I get "refreshed to the first page, and not to the page that I was posting on ( that used to happen on the old pre beta version of WebmasterWorld too )..Normally I'd look for the link to page 2 ,( or whatever page number of the thread I was on, click it and get back to where I was reading, and immediately see all my typos ;)..On this beta version I couldn't find the links to page 2 of this thread..eventually I did find them , three little "blank" boxen at the bottom right below the "quick reply" box..But, as I say they are blank for me..mousing over them, I can see where they are linking to ..the left box links to the 1st page..the middle box links to the page two..and the right hand box links to "next page"..But until I mouse over them, and the status bar jumps up in FF28, I'd have no idea that they were links to pages within the thread, easy ( at least with this OS:browser combo ) to find oneself in a blind alley after posting if the page one is posting on isn't the first page where one gets sent back to after "post is accepted" and "refreshing to page" happens..

Also noticed the recent post page in the beta appears to have a problem related to the "new post" red dots..
When you refresh the page, the red dots should disappear, as the posts are no longer "new posts"..they don't disappear..even when I've read each of the "new posts" that they are signalling, and even when I've refreshed the "recent posts" page..they only seem to vanish after the WebmasterWorld system auto refreshes the recent posts page for me..

If you "quick reply" you get refreshed ( after the reply is accepted ) to the page you were on..but if you reply via "preview", you get sent to the first page in the thread....Would make more sense if you always got refreshed to the page you were on..

we've opened up the beta to ALL REGISTERED MEMBERS now so to keep everything together we're closing the Seniors Only threads and moving the discussion to Members Only.

FYI, This Seniors Only thread is still only viewable by Senior Members.

If you liked Seniors Only threads, and find other useful ways to use them, please let a mod or admin know as we can create new Seniors Only threads or move any new thread to Senior Only if appropriate.

I think it's kind of cool that us old-timers could just have a place where we can discuss issues for the "elders" that wouldn't be of interest to new members. ;)

Thanks for all the feedback, we're moving forward and bug fixing as fast as humanly possible and probably making new bugs along the way, so keep reporting them as the whole site will switch to the beta within weeks.
