Hi There,

Im new to the forums here, but have been using some of the SE tools + tips with good effects! so a big thanks for that.

Right, can any one help me with the following:

1. Is there a comprehensive list of EVERY search engine currently available, along with their URL's? or is it a case that when you know who feeds who, there really arent that many SE's!

2. Is there a quicker way to check when a submitted website has been indexed other than checking every individual SE? - I have tried some of the Metas, but have been told that they can sometimes be un-reliable.

3. I noticed that upon looking at the website stats of a clients website, inktomi had been to visit it, yet when I checked some SE's powered by inktomi searching yielded nothing? does that mean it did not like the site, or is there a waiting list.
All the metas are or reasonable length so I dont think that I have spammed anything.

4. I read in Netscape URL inclusion notes, not to post a URL twice as it could result in non inclusion. After completing the home page for a client and adding some key words, I thought I would add the URL to several engines to get them under way, due to the long free inclusion times, and then re add the URL again once the sight was complete. I am now worried about adding the URL again incase the site gets spammed from every SE! - am I worring too much? or is this to try and stop people from getting there sight indexed say monthly?

Thanks to all who can help.

Ellis.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, Ellis.

1. I don't know about all search engines, but there are generally only a few that will bring most traffic. You'll find a lot of information in our forum that's specifically for UK and Ireland Search Engines and Directories [webmasterworld.com].

2. There is software for submission and checking rankings. There was a discussion in
this thead
[webmasterworld.com].

3. Regarding Inktomi, yes, sites are being visited but free submissions don't seem to be getting added to the index. You'll find discussions in our Inktomi [webmasterworld.com] forum.

4. The free listings at the Netscape portal (in the US) are ODP and Google, so inclusion in those should get you found at Netscape search. With ODP don't resubmit unless at least three weeks have elapsed. With Google, generally you'll be added through the ODP listing or another significant link.

It can't hurt to resubmit as long as it's not overdone, although it's generally unnecessary. Some do when adding pages or making changes. Once you're indexed you'll most likely be revisited. More information in our Search Engine Submission [webmasterworld.com] forum.

Hope you continue to enjoy the board, glad you've been finding it helpful.
