How can you tell if a thread is closed?

confused by "status: error : Post is older than system operator has set...

A few times now I have clicked on POST REPLY, only to get the following:
status: error : Post is older than system operator has set to allow.
No Replies Allowed. The thread has been closed.

e.g.

Hyperlinking all text [webmasterworld.com] - a thread started less than 5 weeks ago and currently the 5th thread on Accessibility and Usability [webmasterworld.com]

Going back to the relevant forum page, I see no indication that the thread is closed, nor do I see any indication on the thread itself

I see that 'mack' posted the following to this forum in known issues v4 [webmasterworld.com] - but that thread is closed too

when using the one click delete function the thread becomes locked. I guess this could be a feature, but sometimes it can make house keeping easier if it's possible to add an explanatory post?

Thread was under 2 hrs old.

Mack.

My question is:

How can you tell if a thread is closed?

There is no visual way to tell; you have to try to respond to it to see.

The threads expire for a variety of different reasons, mostly because of stale information. If you would like to bring up an old topic that has already expired, start a new thread and link to that old discussion.

There are only 10 types of bulletin board forums:

0: those with one of the busiest forums being devoted to bugs
1: those without such a forum, simply cos there are too many bugs

;)
