When I get on with ATT DSL directly everything is fine but once I use the wireless router it's a serious problem.
Interestingly only some of the pages on WW are a problem. I can get to the home page and to 'my threads' through my control panel. I can get to individual threads just fine.
But I can't go to the forum pages like 'Google Search News' or 'Webmaster Supporters Forum'.
Both my husband and I have spent hours trying to correct the problem. It seems to be in the wireless connection.
Can anyone help? I can't always use another computer.
What happens is that it seems to get stuck and never finishes loading. I'd just hoped someone here had experienced the same thing with a Dell and had a solution.
Then try this:
Start->Run
type cmd, press enter. This opens a DOS window.
Type tracert webmasterworld.com, press enter.
What this will do is show the route your request takes in getting to WebmasterWorld. The very last "hop" before it times out will be the problem.
If it completes the hop to WebmasterWorld, it's not the connection, it's the browser.
I had almost the exact same problem a few months back with Satellite. I could get to every site on the web except the one I needed to work on. It would go to the last router before the server and time out.
The "big D" offered a "free upgrade" to their new modem, and lo and behold . . . the problem did go away.
The bad news is I never got a definitive answer from anyone on exactly what the problem was or why it fixed itself. Because it died on the last hop, we suspected the ISP service of the host, but a new modem fixed it here. I would try working with your ISP and see if they can help you out somehow if it's not browser-related.
