It is now about one year since my notifications worked properly. Last time the subject was raised it was apparent that I am not alone in this.

Any progress?

Email notifications? Mine stopped working, I checked and the mail addy wasn't forwarding (or working apparently) so I changed my settings in Cpanel and it started working again.

It's not the email address. I already tried changing it and I got the same problem. Also, it does work sometimes, which wolud suggest that this is not the problem?

Well, we chased down one bug, but apparently there are still some other buggies. Not sure what to tell you about this one - it's pretty elusive.

If it's any kind of a clue, I'm getting notifications for recent posts in the Supporters forum and for this forum, but not for other ones.

I so rarely get notifications, and over such a long period of time, that I've just given it up as permanent fatal flaw. When the topic comes up, I post in order to throw my hat in the ring again - hoping against all odds:((

Yes, it would appear that there is an inherent problem that is just not going to get fixed. This is most unfortunate on a forum as popular and respected as this. When notifications fail on a forum this has got to be seen as a serious functional problem but perhaps there are not enough of us suffering from this to get something done about it?

OK, here's a suggestion or a temporary fix on our end that I just thought of for myself, because I often forget to check the box for notifications I want to follow up on.

Want to get a notification? I'll send myself an email with the URL of the thread, and save them in a "WebmasterWorld follow-up" email folder. That'll be an easy to access reminder to check that thread for new replies.

Not to mention not getting 7,382 notifications of reponses to a Google penalty thread. :)

So then, let's think of it this way: Maybe it's not a bug, but a new feature {for which I can think of a few reasonably good reasons).

I keep a bookmark folder specifically for WebmasterWorld threads that I suspect I may want to return to even months later. Been a sanity saver more than once.

If I haven't saved one that I should have:
site:webmasterworld.com D_Blackwell keyword
(or SuzyUK keyword)
Google doesn't miss much:))

But that has nothing to do with the problem of being on top of current threads. No notifications is huge minus. It is what it is, and WebmasterWorld is still a great place - but it is what it is.

BDW, you are again leading the charge.. Next on me!
In between you and I
we certainly gently complained about the fact… hmmm a zillion times..
Indeed I still do not get auto-notification
Year after year I wake up the 12/25 with great expectations but always come empty handed :)

Don't call it a complaint. Call it a heartfelt plea. ;)

the first of the "Message Thread Options:" at the bottom of each thread is the "flag it" option which will keep a list of flagged threads for you.
you can see this list in the control panel [webmasterworld.com] where there is a My flags [webmasterworld.com] link

There's a limit to the number of threads that can be flagged.

Appropriately enough, I am receiving notifications on this thread.
