See [webmasterworld.com...]

I typed "a" followed by a space, then a question mark but the space was swallowed.

Just curious why this happens.

I'm not sure why it happens, but webmasterworld has trimmed spaces before question marks for as long as I've been here.

A? mark with one space before it.
A? mark with one space before it and bold tags around the space.
A ? mark with two spaces before it.

The actual occasions that one needs a space before a question mark is pretty rare.

this is a test

<?php echo $var;?>
<?php echo $var; ?>

gosh, it's true. the space is gone.

Maybe the space-? thing would come up in PHP code, maybe also in certain Regular expressions... possibly in conditional expressions?

test? true : false

it's not a problem, I can live without the space. But - why ever would such a rule be needed or invented?

It's not that it's difficult, just annoying! :P And a bug.

And no, you can't get around it by saying "Oh, it's a good thing that we delete spaces!" :P

Using double space = A ?

Without using double space = A ?

This is fun.

it is part of the routines that address the dreaded thread killing and rude one liner post:

it is part of the routines that address the dreaded thread killing and rude one liner post:

Oh, I get it.

So - what are all these rules? Not that I really need to know, but curiosity compels me to ask. What else is being filtered & rewritten & censored, besides swearing and spaces-before-question-marks, and names of certain other websites (like ones that rhyme with "a fist a fart")?

Or is that proprietary info you'd rather not share for fear that boneheads would post junk in here while knowlingly sidestepping all the filters? ;)
