I just noticed Adsense being served on webmasterWorld.com forum. Is there a thread about this decision?

Personaly, The ads don't bother me, I am happy to see Brett monetizing the site.

so there has not been a formal announcement about tihs...? If not, I agree it must be for April fools.

I spent 20 minutes trying to find an announcement... so, I am a fool.

Surprised to see the ads. I don't like so many. I'd rather see only the ads on the right, not on the top too which makes you scroll down to see more content.

They need to be blended better, using the default color styles. Heck, is there a way to grab what colors a member has set and use that to pull a matching AdSense unit?

:P

Certainly inspires some of the new forum members for really cool questions, like "I just saw that ad that says '$100,000/month guaranteed' - now how do I make it? I don't have a website, I can't write, but I want to have that money. This must be the right place to ask that question."

:-)

I hope for an April Fools joke.

I'm waiting for the nitwits around here to click fraud the ads and Brett to post "I've been banned from AdSense!" on April 2nd.

I hope it's not an AFJ like Google's free broadband. I don't see why BT shouldn't be compensated. Would you do a similar site for free? He's paid his dues in spades. In any case, since we don't get graphics, it's nice to see some color on this site! :/

I clicked an ad just to make sure it wasn't an April fool's joke! The first day is going to see some clicks! After a week or so Brett can join us in a 'Improving CTR on forums' thread :)

Tacky, tacky tacky. Especially as most of the ads I'm seeing are those that are selling information on how to game / defraud adsense.

Really bad example of how to implement Google ads, and smacks of desperation. Subscriptions dropping through the floor or something?

tsk. tsk. Many will be thinking :

"If I don't GET free membership, I'll be clicking MANY times everyday!"

&

"Hey... how can you allow him to call another member a nitwit? I swear I'll click away on your ads if he doesn't get banned!"

HAFD .... ;)

It kind of makes you see the point of an ad free forum. I'm guessing Brett will take down the ads by tomorrow :)

Maybe it's testing the AdSense waters cleverly concealed within an April Fool's prank. Very clever Brett. I say go for it!

I am from Austria, a German speaking country,
and I see a 728x90 Google an on top in German language.

For a April joke much effort to make it language dependent.

OK, now that we know what not to do on our own sites, can we move to lesson 2 please?

Is there an AdSense expert in the house?

Have you all learned nothing? Adsense ads don't perform well on forums.

Brett will be lucky to clear $0.30 at the end of April 1. :)

[webmasterworld.com...]
We have discussed moving the site to banner ads, text ads, or affiliations with developers. Given the we'll buy advertising if we get favorable treatment in the forums environment that all community based advertising models produce, we feel strongly that this is not the route WebmasterWorld would be comfortable following.

[webmasterworld.com...]
We are not here to actually do business with one another.

We do not accept advertising at this time.
