What happens when you hit "GO?"

I just developed a gripe.

I was reviewing my messages, and was done reading one of my stored emails, so I automatically hit "GO," and the message went away to be replaced by the next one in the queue.

Where did it go? I wondered, after realizing that I had spastically hit the big, shiny "GO" button, ala Stimpy (Silly American Cartoon reference, for you non-Americans).

Why, the message is in my trashcan. I had to reach in there, and fish it out from amongst the e-coffee grounds and e-banana peels and e-used napkins.

No "Are you SURE?" no nothing. Just a quick <snip> and it's in the circular file.

I know that we're all supposed to be big, strong grown-up geeks here (anyone that spends any time on geek forums will realize the irony in that statement), but I think that we should be given just a teensy bit of warning in this data loss scenario.

Prompts are for wimps. ;)

Like you said, it's in the trash, not disappeared completely. There are however "do you want to..." warnings for many actions in the stickymail system.

Yeah, I know this is probably something that was deliberately made that way, for sorting through a list of emails, deleting each one as you go.

However, I don't get Stickies like I get regular email. I get one at a time, so I have yet to have a list.

The only list I have is in the stored folder (I'm anal, so I keep EVERY SINGLE one of my received and sent SMs).

I'd suggest being able to assign a default setting to the popup at the bottom of each SM, with the factory setting at "Do Nothing."

Not sure I following the chain of events there, but here are some tid bits of interest:

- on the stickymail (or control panel), left menu is the option " Stickymail Prefs". Click that and you get the option to have confirmations or not on deletes.

- on the bottom of the compose reply text input box is the option check box "Move original email to trash can on successful send?". If checked, this does not prompt you to confirm the delete to the trashcan.

Thanks, Brett. Maybe it is just a case of RTFM.

I'm not losing much sleep over it one way or another. As encyclo pointed out, being in the trash ain't gone forever.

I'll check on the options you mention.

I found the preference you meant. Thanks for the correction.

Humble suggestion: Make it default on.
