Hi guys,

The first time, I am going to pubcon. I will be arriving on April 15. Any suggestion where can I hang on? Apprarently, I will be free on April 16, 17.

I am a businessman and a crazy Chinese programmer, what I interested most is business! I would like to visit some local Internet companies there if possible. Any suggestion how can I find them and ask them to offer me a cup of tea kindly there?

If you're up to it I'm sure you could always get some exercise [bostonmarathon.org] while you're there considering that there's a race going on.

I was planning on running, but I don't think they allow you to run the marathon with a (beer in your hand) or holding a laptop. ;)

There are always great people to meet up at the educational institutions around Boston.

Pick a Nobel prize winner who you've always wanted to meet .. and see if you can get an appointment for a coffee or a chat. :)

Is there an online yellowpage or something which I can find Internet companies in the nearby area?

I definitely like to meet Nobel prize winners, but I do not that they would like to meet me! Any Nobel prize winner here?

I'm a Cracker Jacks Prize Winner, if that helps.
:)

I've also been awarded prizes by Honey Combs, too.

I google and the boston.com site come up which is a pretty good site.

And I search from the job market. Those companies who are looking IT people will probably be growing companies who would like to see some opportunities.

I think I know a little where to go now. Thanks so far!

You can try walking into a restaurant in (or around) the host hotel and hollering loudly "Anyone here from WebmasterWorld?" It's been known to work for someone.

I bought a one month subscription to Vindigo for my LG VX9800 verizon smartphone just so I'm not completely clueless when I arrive in Boston for the PubCon. With Vindigo I was able to set my intersection (Boylston and Exeter) and the service gives me a list of restaurants (for example) sorted (for example) by distance away from my location. Pretty handy. If anyone wants me to list restaurants with a particular cuisine etc just ask me here and I'll look 'em up.

Here are six nearby restaurants:

- Lenox Hotel (almost next to convention center) has Solas Bar (you know, the Irish Pub!), and the Azure Restaurant and the City Bar.
- Sebastians Novel and Map Room (700 Boylston St)
- Jae's (711 Boylston St)
- Morton's, The Steakhouse (699 Boylston)
- Typhoon (725 Boylston)
- Pizzeria Uno (731 Boylston)

Here are six nearby pubs not already mentioned above:

- Stephanie's of Newbury (190 Newbury St) (oooh, sounds fancy, I wonder if there is a Dunkin Donuts... of Newbury too!)
- Ten Huntington Bar & Grill (10 Huntington Ave)
- Top of the Hub (800 Boylston)
- Dick's Last Resort (55 Huntington Ave)
- Oak Bar (138 St James Ave)
- Rebeccas Cafe (122 Newbury St)

Other local shops:

- If you just can't leave Boston without getting a facial peel, stop by Dermalogica at 745 Boylston St. Oh the irony.
- Get your eyebrows plucked at Rachel's Eyebrow & Makeup at 176 Newbury St.
- Get everything else plucked at Everbare Laser Hair Removal, 10 Newbury St.
- Get a butt lift at Back Bay Plastic Surgery, 38 Newbury St. I'm sensing a pattern here.

You know, there is such a thing as too much information :)

Anybody going to see the Sox? Had to buy a single, no doubles together for any night ... and Monday night is already sold out.

Cheers,

Dude, I'm getting URL envy!

I'm all for Starbucks. Give me a jingle when you ride into town.

Don't forget about all the history.

The "Freedom Trail" is the only US National Park within a city. It's a walking tour of historical Boston that you can do on your own or with a guide. I have never yet completed the whole thing even after several attempts over the 23 years I've lived here -- because it's so fascinating to me I just get stuck too many times along the way.

In addition to the Freedom Trail that Tedster mentioned, which is a fantastic way to spend an afternoon, history buffs might consider doing some "Patriot Days" activities which are going on over the weekend and Monday.

Many historical celebrations in Boston and surrounding areas. In Lexington and at Concord Bridge there are reenactments of some famous battles on Monday. You can get there using the subway and then taking a commuter train. Search the National Park service site for more info.

For those interested in a bit of revolutionary history:

FYI: Commuter Rail stops at the Concord Depot. From the Depot, the North Bridge Unit is a 1.5-mile walk.

My patriotic/history lesson involves beer. I plan to skip out on Monday afternoon for a quick tour at the Sam Adam's brewery! :)

Guoqi, it doesn't exactly answer your question, but if you check the bar(s) in the conference hotel at almost any time they are open, you will be able to meet many WebmasterWorld people from all kinds of companies.

Rogerd, don't you mean check out the Boston Public Library next door? I mean, what would any of us be doing in a bar? ;)

I'd keep your tea ideas to yourself in Boston. Makes them all crazy.
