Hi all --
I can't believe I didn't stumble across this forum until 2-1/2 months of intense searching and reading on the web had passed!

I've been doing about 4 hours per day of reading here for the last three days and joined today.

I am engaged in my second attempt to start a web site design business. The first attempt was in 1995 and died short of starvation with only two clients - one in California and one in Georgia. The long and the short was that in seeking clients I found myself in endless discussions with people who thought the internet was a load of hype and wasn't going to amount to anything! Groan.

My expertise lies in the area of design (especially typographical design) and in content. I absolutely believe that content is 99% of a good web site. I have 2-2/3 degrees in English, with extensive experience in writing and editing. For 25 years I was a graphic designer in the PC (Pre-Computer) age.

My interest is in designing clean, fast sites which are free of grammatical infelicities, typos, and spellos. Since starting this second attempt, I have been fast-absorbing CSS and am now researching SEO material. (This means my own site is constantly under construction. lol)

As a matter of curiosity: I have had the same email address since
1997.

I look forward to becoming a supporting member of this site very soon and even more do I look forward to someday being able to offer others the kind of help I know I will find here.

Right now, about all I can offer is a quick reading of a member's site to let them know if they need to assign one of their people to thoroughly proof-read the content. I may also be able to offer help with some design issues about which folks may have questions.

Thanks again to all for this comfortable home on the web!

oops is right --

def: instroduction is an introduction to instruction

All I can say is that it's -17F here and my hands are freezing!

As for intro sounding like a CV, I absolutely did not mean it for that. I only wanted to show where I was capable of offering help and to indicate my limitations. Sorry if I offended and as for formality--
that just "ain't" me. (As I sit here in my plaid shirt, overalls, and slippers!)

Will shut up now.
