MEETING PEOPLE
Forums enable us to communicate and share information with others everyday. It is 110% better when you personally meet someone. You can build up trust and talk more freely. Often people are more open to collaboration after they have met face-to-face.
HOW DO YOU MEET PEOPLE?
If you are shy (even if you are not shy) a good way to network, make friends and find future business partners is to contact people that have posted good information online. If you have seen someone post a really good post, then you should sticky mail them & congratulate them. Also ask if they are attending Pubcon and if they would like to meet up for a drink (your treat to thank them for sharing helpful information :)).
By first contacting via email you do not need to approach anonymous people in a bar. Also you can be sure to have at least one friendly face who will probably introduce you to five more friendly people and quickly you will be surrounded by smart, fun people.
VETERANS TAKE NOTE
If you are an old hand at this and already know a lot of people then take it to the next level. Contact some of your old acquaintances and schedule a sit down meal with them. This has helped me launch many profitable business partnerships.
Also by prescheduling some private meetings it helps guarantee that you will be able to meet up in a setting that you will be able to talk about sensitive details. It's fun to talk at the parties but you can make a lot more progress when you are meeting privately in a quite place.
See ya in Vegas
There is a wide selection of parties and events. There are official parties which are paid for and hosted by PubCon sponsors.
There are also private parties. These private parties are smaller events which range from companies looking to give a sales pitch, provide a special thank you to their top people or provide a more intimate setting for people to party but still be able to talk and collaborate.
Turn around and say "Hi, I'm paybacksa!" ;)
Seriously. There isn't a simpler way to meet people. Locate people you know and ask them to help you meet other members. If you don't put yourself out there, how will anyone know you're there? You're paying good money to be at PubCon. Use the time wisely and get the most out of it you can!
I also go with a list of 3 questions/issues that I want to get answers or opinons on. I know before I arrive who might have an answer or be able to offer insight and I either make arrangements to meet them ahead of time or just plan to locate them while I'm there.
Any suggestions for a hotel to stay at would also be appreciated. I was planning on staying at the Sahara, but I procrastinated enough that it is full. You know how it goes.
Best bet for meeting someone is to go to the bar at the main hotel. Still the best place for newbies to the conference to start (I started this way) because many members and the mods will likely be there (before and /or after our meeting).
And welcome to WebmasterWorld!
