Thread killing posts and users

What can be done about them?

Hi Folks

As you might have noticed, we have here on WebmasterWorld a group of members who have specialized in killing threads.

Those members are allowed, for one reason or the other to enter threads for one purpose.. get moderators to terminate them.

Thats done by posting off-topic, personal attack or just making fun of other contributors.

I'm really thinking of leaving WebmasterWorld.

Hi reseller,

When ever you come across such a post please let the forum moderator know. We strive as much as possible to save such threads and appreciate all member input that we can receive on such issues.

Mack.

Thanks for prompt reply.

But those "posters" are not hiding themselves. There personal attacks are very clear. Visit my latest two threads and see for yourself.

And how about posting with those VERY LARGE FONTS? why would that be allowed? Its just like moderators are allowing those posters to shout at us.

Instead of asking those Thread Killers, to observe the TOS. Moderators are rewarding them by closing the threads. The Thread Killers Win, always.

Anytime you have a mostly-anonymous community of people such as at WebmasterWorld, you're going to run into a few people who don't play well with others.

I think the administrators and moderators do a pretty good job of keeping the type of disruption you're talking about to a minimum. However, like Mack said, when you see that kind of thing going on you need to let us know via sticky or the report a post function so that we can take care of the users/posts that we miss.

However, it's not just up to us - regular members can do a lot to keep disruptions to a minimum. What do to when you see a troll or "thread killer" post? Ignore them and get back to the discussion at hand. You can do a lot to keep the quality on track here - you have a lot more power to do so than you think.

Thanks for reply. I understand and appreciate.

When I see the moderators not stopping such Thread Killers Mafia, who dare in future to start a thread? Not me (:(

I wish to hear from you:

- whether you see the use of those very large fonts in posts appropriate and fit into acceptable formate of the threads. I guess many of us regard posting with those very large fonts as SHOUTING!

- I can't imagine that allowing that specific group of Thread Killers to distroy informative threads should stand. I'm sure that moderators, know exactly who those Thread Killers are.

Their "procedure" is as follows: that bunch of people know that moderators have limited time to be spent on "cleaning" off-topic and insulting posts. So they keep on posting their trash until moderators get tired and because of limited time, moderators decide to terminate the threads. I have few examples for you if you wish and interested.

- I'm sure, it isn't in accordance with the spirit of WebmasterWorld founder, that insults allowed to stand in threads. I gave you in my previous post examples. You removed them, fair enough. But that haven't solved the problem.

Many kind fellow members will decline to start threads or contribute becuase of risking the "action" of the Thread Killers Mafia.

Reseller,

We have tens of thousands of active members here at WebmasterWorld from every corner of the globe. Culturally, we are a very diverse group of individuals. Many of our members have English as their second (or third, or fourth) language. Yet all of these people come here to discuss common information about search and webmastering.

Because our membership is so diverse, we all have to remember to be more open-minded and tolerant of others' opinions and viewpoints. You may see or read something that doesn't quite make sense to you or sit well with you (e.g., someone emphasizing a point in all caps), but that doesn't mean that you're right and they're wrong, or vice versa. It means we're all different here.

Again, I want to emphasize to you that your best course of action is to ignore people or posts you see as "thread killers," and talk to the moderator or admin of any forum where you see violations of our TOS.
