Private forum: What to expect?

I'd like to hear from members...

I'd like to hear back from members of the paid private forum here, regarding my expectations of the forum.

I'd like to join because:

• I'd like advice on how to make a website venture work, in terms of getting people to pay for the service / membership.

• I'd like feedback on my venture ideas; is this a stupid idea, or can it work? If it can, what are your tips?

• Marketing ideas: Here's my venture idea, now how do I get the word out - absent search engines? How do I get community groups / BBSs to patronize my site?

Basically, I'm looking for mentors, as I go about trying to set up the next eBay, YouTube, and so on!

So then, can I expect that in the private forum?

Nobody will give away the magic bullet anyplace (if there even is such a thing), and finding an individual mentor to function as a consultant and walk through a personal business plan in detail is a different thing from the kind of brainstorming that can go on in a group environment.

If there's enough down-to-earth, real-world practical business type discussion on relevant issues, you can absorb enough business savvy over time to be way ahead of what you started out with. The idea is to learn to absorb the business wisdom that others share, and develop thinking skills to be able to individualize and adapt to a specific personal project.

That you'll find.

I see you have 31 posts in eight months. You will find that the more you participate the more you learn, especially when someone disagrees with something you thought was a fact.

Asking questions and testing your opinions against others are sure ways of learning more.

In eight months, until this thread, I have never heard of you. If you join the supporters forum, be sure to come out of lurk mode if you intend to get more out of the forum. ;)

Agreed, I have not been on much - not even lurking. I guess what I'm looking for in the paid forum is more of people with proven experience that can help, question, challenge....rather than a lot of other guys like me, looking for info.

I'm not asking for someone to tell me to do THIS and I'll become a millionaire; rather, I'd like people to say, "Yeah, that's a good idea, but have you considered problem X about this idea?", or "When you do that, make sure to do X, it'll help drive a lot more people to your site."

Stuff like that.

All you need to know is here already, what you need to develope is your ability to research and make some sense of the information that you receive.

I think you must wait... a lot.

I subscribed for a year via PayPal two weeks ago (14 days) and I haven't still received a notice nor can enter the private forum.

I send too a problem report form a few days ago and I had the same and soundless response.

Still waiting.

I worry when someone is just looking to see if the supporters forums are a great deal or a magic key. Yes you will learn there just as you learn everywhere on WW.

But it's also a way to give back for all you've learned in the free forums here by helping support Webmaster World.

Not wanting to knock this website at all, as it's an invaluable resource, and I haven't hesitated in paying my subscription just to acknowledge that fact, but in my opinion the best information is in the public forums and not the supporters one.

Yes, there is the occasional tidbit of info in the supporters forum that you wont find in the public one, but that's pretty rare.
