Hello everyone! I'm Sasha, the GrapefruiTgirl, from the east coast of Canada :)
Glad to have found this place, as it has so far helped me out some, and surely will a lot more. I have my first website up and running, but due to content (and no, it isn't even a nrop site!) I have been jumping around from free host to free host (Im unemployed).. Where I am currently hosted, support doesn't seem to exist and I have to learn a whole lot more about scripting and servers to get the site doing what it was doing so nicely and simply on YGC, so have installed Apache on my computer to figure it out for myself. Baffling it is indeed, trying to use an application that has to be configured manually from A to Z with virtually no Docs, but hopefully I will find what I need in this giant collection of knowledgeable people and forums.

Happy to be here! Take care everyone...

Sasha

Glad you found us, GrapefruiTgirl, and we are happy you are here.

I think that installing and learning Apache as you are is going to be more beneficial than you could imagine. It helps to know the details! Two big resources for you are going to be the Apache HTTP Server [httpd.apache.org] web site (see Documentation in the navigation on the left of that page for your specific version) and the WebmasterWorld Apache Forum [webmasterworld.com].

:)
Thank you so much Coopster, for the welcome and the links!
I will be off to the races so to speak, shortly, with those two links you indicated, as probably I will have a lot of reading to do in there.
I have already found that the php I downloaded is not compatible with the Apache I am using.. Grr, heh heh! What's next.....?
Looking forward to learning a lot here, and ultimately being able to help others too, as this can seem a daunting field to be getting into.
