Serious site slowdown

It took ages to load, is quite slow navigating to pages, and even when hitting the button to do this post - it took several minutes to load. It started late afternoon Pacific time. Yep, I rebooted and cleared cache - still no joy.

Thought I'd better mention it, lots of people have lots to share and catch up on.

From the main index page I can access the individual forums listed down the right, but the active list/recent posts is refusing to load at all - when it does it's minutes later. Same trying with Firefox, so it isn't an IE thing (what I usually suspect first).
