What is the appropriate forum for sub-domain discussion. Particularly how best to use a sub-domain in marketing/SE/indexing/pay-perclick etc.

That topic covers a lot of territory, and in the absence of anything specific in focus, Webmaster General [webmasterworld.com] is usually a safe bet.
You'll also want to get into issues of relative vs. absolute addressing, filenames and user friendliness of navigation, so that forum seems like it would be a good choice.
