You may find it even more shocking that Martha Stewart's next apprentice just might be an SEM/SEO and Webmaster World member.
My sister recognized the contestant David Karandish on TV from WebmasterWorld New Orleans, and immediately directed me to the show's official website to confirm.
The website biography lists David's occupation as the owner of an internet advertising company.
David, we wish you luck as Martha's future apprentice, and hope you reply to this thread.
Letting David walk was the biggest mistake recorded and broadcast on TV in a long time.
Good job David, glad to have you around here.
bwaaahaaa. Remember when Herb did the big Thanksgiving turkey giveaway? Tossed the turkey's out of a helicopter thinking they could fly. A CLASSIC TV episode.
Hey David, nice job on the show, wonder how many on the Martha website team are sweating it now that they have been called out. lol
What they had done was bid an Overture ad to the top. I doubt that this strategy is David's kind of SEO but I'll bet he forced the show's attention onto search in the first place. The announcement also put the Yahoo brand out there for search...in a place where people have naturally come to expect they will hear "Google".
Don't they have some sort of endorsement deal/aggreement with "the donald" featuring the Apprentice?
Yeah, I'm pretty sure they do.
After every episode they do the same type thing: "to learn more about the dairy queen ad featured in this episode, go to Yahoo and search for apprentice ice cream..."
Definitely an interesting branding move for Yahoo since when search is mentioned in the TV media, it is usually prefaced by "I googled..."
The most amazing thing about David is that he is so bright and down to earth. He owns his own successful business and is always looking for ways to help other people out (as many in the WebmasterWorld community are).
I have been pumping him weekly for info and I knew it wasn't good when he showed up at the office with a new hair cut and a suit and tie yesterday. When I asked him if he was off to New York, he just smiled and I knew the end had come.
Martha would have gotten more from David than any of the other candidates by far. She needs him more than Jim, the crazy guy who she keeps around for the ratings. Doesn't she know that she needs rankings more than ratings right now? :)
Great Job David. We are all proud of you.
Steph
He mentioned that Martha's site was nowhere in the SEs for "recipes"
Actually Martha's #6 on Yahoo for that term (nowhere on the other engines). Was that the case before the episode aired or is this a hand edit [webmasterworld.com] based on Yahoo's deal with The Apprentice?
Joe
guts to drop SEO concepts
Maybe not, but I'm willing to be you would have extolled the virtues of successful ecommerce ;)
It's probably a matter of saying what's most natural at that point. I haven't seen the episode, but will certainly have to dig a bit to study his last minute elevator pitch...sounds like it was a good one.
Congrats to David for the opportunity, and a thanks for representing SEO's to the masses in a more positive light than we normally get.
Sadly Im the same way in meetings... nose in a notepad or notebook thinking of ideas from side, other, anything else projects that I just dont have the time for but could make a boatload of cash.
So lesson ive learned: I need to clone myself so I can get on those 10 great projects I wish I had time to work on :)
I just got back from NYC - thanks again guys for all of the kind words. As you can imagine, it was quite the experience. I look forward to seeing you all at PubCon in Vegas. Hopefully the hotel isn't owned by Merv ;-)
Too bad you were not on the Donald Apprentice last night... you would have wowwwww'ed them in search marketing education!
