Gmail not allowed on this forum?

I just joined here and was not allowed to used my gmail address... is this a policy on this forum?

Yes, to stop "problems" you are not allowed to use gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc and need to give a "proper" email address

You can shut it off in your control panel so that it is not "public", so the world need never know if you want to remain anonymous.

hummmm that's interesting, as I don't have any "proper" email addresses, I have no computer at home, hence no ISP, hence no 'proper' email except my website host mail forwarding.

p.s. I am not so sure what 'problems' means, I know that a lot of spammers use yahoo etc...

I think by proper they mean either your ISP's address or your Work address. (And hey, I suspect the problem is solved as you are a member now!)

ahhh, but it is a bit odd, as I am forwarding to gmail, so it all seem so pointless, like I say I don't have an ISP, or a work email... if it was not for my website host email forwarding I guess I'd be a bit stuck. very usefull my email forwarding is :)

not at all, it doesn't matter where it is forwarded to, the point is theoretically the email address can be traced back to you personally, this is not the case with the free online mail services

i imagine this is useful to help prevent 'same' person conversations and abusive threads and so on

This is silly. What is a "proper" e-mail addess? My main e-mail address is on a server run my a midwestern sysadmin I personally know. Only because he knows how to run a server like a pro. If I didn't know how to use strong client side filtering, I'd use my Gmail address instead.

My best guess would be that a proper email address is one that can be traced with some degree of accountability, that doesn't have a negative history of being abusive.

Then he/she is accountable for any abusers or wierdos on the email system and there's a degree of screening, right?
