Not putting your hompage link in your profile

Is it because you dont want competition?

So I notice everyone is really secretive about who they are and the sites they use, no homepage link in profile, etc.

So if you dont mind, can you tell me why you do this?

Im guessing you dont want these other adsense publishers to try and cut in on your niche, or perhaps its that you are doing some gray-area methods and don't want google to now?

I asked the same question when I first visited this site, the link above.

The answer I received is that there are many unscrupulous folks who visit this board(I just finished reading a post from one). Plus, the strict Google TOS in regards to discussing stats, easy to slip up here and there. Also, in the case of opposing ideas that result in mild arguments.

Paranoia runs deep around here.

I read somewhere here that you simply need to make an amount of posts before you see this information. Meaning that people do put their homepages in the profiles, it's you who don't see it. :-)

I just wish all the anonymous members without URLs in their profiles would stop complaining that Google is "secretive" when it should be "transparent." :-)

Many users of this board think they are anonymous when they don't put their website in their profile, but this is not true in many cases. There have been several threads in the Adsense forum of the kind "My Adsense account was disabled and I didn't do any wrong" where other members within hours discovered the offending website and the real reason why the account was disabled. Those "anonymous" posters had to leave the thread with their tail between their legs.

Many posters use their WW username on other forums, discuss the same issues at the same time at several places etc. The real anonymous user does hardly exist on the internet.

That's why I don't care to have my website in my profile. If people--good or bad--really want to know who I am and which site I maintain, they will find out anyway.

I can see it from both points of view. However, my perspective is that because I have nothing to hide then I'm happy to list my details in my profile. There is a danger of somebody pinching my stuff, but that could happen anyhow. You can't hide everything because of online thieves.

I'm not worried about someone stealing content, that happens. I more so would hate to answer a SEO question and state it works for me only to have a direct competitor scrape my site and see exactlly what I am doing, who I am doing it with, and how I am doing it. Why expose yourself to that?
