Are you mad? Edinburgh is the only place on the planet to be during the Edinburgh Festival ..

almost the entire month of august, don't go anywhere else ;)

How about somewhere central and easily accessible like Sheffield?

Was that meant to be humerous?

I think that only London is a serious option where people have to fly in from various countries. Although it could save a lot in hotel costs were it not...

My vote goes for Edinburgh! ;) As accessible as London is - plenty of flights to Edinburgh and Glasgow (which isn't too far away to travel from).

Im sure there is lots more to consider.

- Turn out.
- accessibility, roads, rail, air etc.
- Facilities.
- Price: Hotels, Air etc

You can get Flights to Glasgow from many European Cities. But from America would need to go to London and a flight up.

Where ever it is UK or Europe - I hope try go for my first.

Glasgow or Edinburgh?

I guess now I have an excuse to sit in pubz and drink for the next few months. :) and now I need to get a laptop so that I can write new content... I see it now:

'The life of a drunk.' or even a full write up about the 'AA'

I'm not just suggesting Edinburgh because it's an amasing city, but during the festival period the worlds media are there...

along with the theatre festivals.. there is also, the science festival, the film festival and the book festival... the worlds electronic media people will already be there...

Plus the parties are great :)

Don't hotel rates rocket during the festival / harder to get accommodation (though it would be fun!)?

How about a pub con somewhere else in Europe besides the UK? Maybe Prague? Great city, cheap, lots of international shows and fairs, so the infrastructure is good.

Yes, unfortunately. I would guess that mainstream hotels won't be too outrageous, but will have next to no availability. It's the guest houses and private lets that end up charging stupid prices because there is nowhere left to stay. I know people who would move out of their apartment for the month of the festival and make a lot of money renting it out.

Keep in mind, during festival time, the population of Edinburgh doubles from around 500,000 to 1 million - that's a lot of spare rooms taken up! ;)

It would be fun though - pubs and clubs get an extended license to open (pubs to 3am, clubs to 5am, where other pubs open...) - dozens of shows on each night for a month (comedy, theatre, music, exhibitions, etc) - from mainstream comedy to new talent - street performances all the time round the city centre - lot's of people always about - definitely a good time to visit if you've never been! :)

The Film festival also usually premiere's a mystery film - they don't tell you what it is before you go in (seem to recall it was either Resevoir Dogs or Pulp Fiction that was premiered there).

And the weather *usually* isn't too bad that time of the year! ;)
