I've been reading the occasional hijacking threads, (phptracker, 302, whatever,) for a long time, but this is the first that I've seen it ramped-up to this extent. Japanese is responsible for much of this, although I suspect there were many others feeling the same way, and he was just the first one who got p*ssed off enough to hammer away at it non-stop.
Bottom-line: if any resolution of the problem is to be found, it will probably originate at Webmasterworld. Very impressive. Incredibly enough, this forum might play a key role in keeping the net from drowning in Search Engine spam.
Promise, if I ever have the dollars to be a supporter, WW will get it.
It plays a big role in creating se spam so anything it does to curb it will just offset it by the ammount it is responsible for.
You might be right. Pardon my naivety... I'm Canadian by birth, so it's not my fault.
I do like to think that bringing attention to these problems might put pressure on the SE's to try to improve on things. That might just be more naivety, or it might be the kind of eternal optimism that comes from being raised in a cold climate, but I prefer to think that something good is truly being accomplished. It's rather depressing to think that glorified script-kiddies are reading that thread and making notes so that they can learn how to hijack too.
Google can fix if they want to. I guess they need to be shamed into fixing it.
