Not really new to web design, but just starting to get somewhat serious and possibly considering it an option to make some money on the side. (or fultime, if the fates see fit)
I already have kind of a dumb question. Where would I post questions about layouts and UIs? If this is a kosher place, i'm curious what sort of books and online articles are available on the subject. I've done some searching via google with little to no luck of anything that is mildly "recent". Any help would be vastly appreciated.
You all seem like good folks, as well. Just thought i'd toss that out. :)

You can find a lot of interesting reading in the library secion of each forum. Messages about layout might be best aimed at the CSS and Graphics. UI could go into a number of fora depending what you are needing to know. Tedster is an authrotiy on IA which is a consideration when designing UI. Blobfisk has a great deal of knowledge in that area too.

If you have questions about layouts and UIs, the best place at this point is probably the Webmaster General [webmasterworld.com] forum. That forum seems to be a nice catch-all for all of the topics that don't quite fit anywhere else!
The best forum here is probably the foo forum [webmasterworld.com], there you can talk about anything in the news, future events and Friday nights there is a word game.
Although try not to post in it too much.
Remember not to break the rules and give helpful posting regulary and I'm sure you'll be a respected member in no time!
