StickyMail will go through an internal upgrade on Nov 1.

At that time ALL Stickymail boxes will be emptied and reset.

I know what all means Brett, but I gotta ask about those messages sent, yet unopened?

For example - Last week I sent a message to someone who has not been here this week. If they do NOT return before the upgrade, what happens to that / those messages?

Thanks,
Pendanticist.

It is going to all be gone. Totally redoing the guts - storage format - we have run out of room and have to redo the whole format.

Hey Brett, may I be presumptuous and suggest that you send out a newsletter about this?

I know that I have saved some emails from folks that I'd hate to lose if I didn't know about this.

I'd consider this a fairly 'major' thing.

Just a suggestion.

Maybe we should all regularly use the "forward" option. I have started using it fairly often, rather than let my inbox get clogged....

Brett, does this mean that all sticky mail will be emptied and reset?

*duck* ;-)

I don't mind being presumptuous, it would be out of character not to be. ;)

IMHO there needs to be a newsletter now anyway. First off, some folks may not happen to be around and miss the notice. Secondly, people are sometimes absent for awhile for any number of reasons, and with the conference coming up, some might not know about it until too late and miss out on it altogether.

Subject could read "Important Stickymail and Conference Announcements" - short, sweet and to the point, with a sentence each for a lead-in and a link to the pertinent information.

I know that I have saved some emails from folks that I'd hate to lose if I didn't know about this.

Don't I know it, Scott! Losing the Google algo is not something any of us would take lightly.

Even a front page note would help.

I can't believe that there is no way to export the database, manipulate it, and import it into the new system.

I'm sure there is - but why shouldn't they take the opportunity to get people to save their messages on their hard disk instead? It took me about 3 minutes: open text editor, open each message in turn, copy, paste, save. I'm sure that clearing all the sticky mail will save gigabytes of space on the server.

It's even easier to just forward the important stuff to oneself....

Boy there are going to be some mad people. I already exported mine but there are a lot of people that take breaks from here for months at a time. Will there be any way for some of those people to pay to get it from a backup. There really should have been a sticky to everybody as soon as it was known that it was going to be done. A thread is not the best way to get a hold of everybody. It would be easy to miss.

Well, would it make them feel better if it was called an "impending database crash"?

The system can't handle so many accounts and so much storage.

It's being fixed.

My thanks are to Brett for letting my keep old messages on the server in the first place.

Oh yes I agree it is very nice of him. I would much rather have a scheduled system crash with lots of warning than a suprise. I am just not looking forward to the contant barrage of new threads about where are my stickies. It will be a customer service nightmare for Brett. I feel for him. I have worked customer service before and people get real mad when they lose something that they should have backed up. They like to blame others for their own stupid mistake.

Maybe off topic, but it seems that overall board performance improved since, not?

You mean it has already happened? I deleted most of my stickies already, but I have one I left from October 30th which is still there in the inbox.

You're right about one thing, though: the board feels speedier than ever today.

Nov 2nd, Stickies were still in my StickyBox so I manually deleted them.

Has it been postponed or did a lot of people just clean their boxes after your message - hence big space saved?
