I have had an account on this site for awhile, but rarely use it because of a problem I have consistantly had in every browser and every computer upgrade with this site. When I go to my account preferences, it will not accept my changes when I try to set a different theme. Most importantly, though not sure if its directly related to the theme issue, everytime I view a section, everything is marked as "new posts", even immediately after I read a thread. This makes it incredibly hard for me to go through posts because I find myself clicking on the same one multiple times by accident.

I primarily use Opera 7.5 but tried with IE6 and had the same problems. I don't think its cookie based either, since I got a new computer at work about a year ago and the problem was there again immediately when logging into WebmasterWorld.

Any ideas? I would love to be a part of the community.

This (the theme thingy) is a known issue, and apparently not being "fixed" because other changes are in the works. I asked about this not long back myself, and was pointed to a thread some while before that even, but have "lost" it.

As to the "read messages" situation: once you're sure you've looked at all the threads you really want to read on any given day, go to the "forums index" page, and at the top left there's a link marked "reset last read pointers". Click that to erase all the little red spheres. The next time you access the site, there will be red spheres again but only on thread with new posts (which will however be almost every thread on the place if it's more than a few hours later! The joys of a busy community!)

I think at this point, if I were you, I'd reset all the last read pointers right now, then reaccess the site tomorrow morning.... I just reset them all before I log off for the evening.

[Oh - actually EACH separate forum has a "reset last read pointers" link in the top right corner of the main topic index, too....]
