There have been a trend towards off topic messages lately.

The thread will start out about Food and end up talking about golf. Although I enjoy a nice sandwich while Golfing, that does not mean the two are related and ontopic to on another.

So, humble request to stay within the guidelines of the original message when we make followup messages please.

Thanks.

Ever hear about the Club Sandwich? ;)

Seriously, the art of staying on topic is definitely an art. It's easy to focus on irrelevant details when somebody is trying to tell you something important (I know this for a fact after empirical studies of conversations with my girlfriend for the past years).

A good way to stay on topic is to check your posting with the headline and subtitle of the first message in the thread. If your post sounds reasonable in that context, then you're probably on topic.

Returning to the topic on golf and food (the case in point), and believe me I am very interested, do you take a short break after 9 holes and eat the sandwich then? Or do you eat it whenever you feel like it during the round? Is there a "kiosk" after 9 holes where you can buy sandwiches and hot dogs etc on the golf course, or do you have to bring your own food?

We tend to get alot of "pile on" threads, where they become philosophical discussions. We also get many where people are trying to promote their pet cause.
