Any chance of one?

Hello fellow WW members. I have something to suggest, and something to ask of you...

I would like to suggest the addition of a hardware forum in the Webmaster General Forum. I find that as a webmaster, I am not only dealing with programming / website / marketing issues, but hardware issues as well. Some of these issues include, but are not limited to, hardware upgrades, hardware trouble, new server builds, and all the backoffice stuff to make it work.

If I had enough posts, I'd be happy to volunteer for the moderator position, but alas I don't quite have my 1500+ posts to qualify.

If you agree, please drop it in here so Brett hears your voice. I hate leaving WW to go to other sites to discuss hardware technology issues.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I'm sure a lot of people, myself included, would benefit from it.

As said in this thread [webmasterworld.com], by Brett:
we are mostly search engine optimizers.

I heavily doubt that Brett would take any interest in opening an Hardware Forum.

sidyadav-

Thanks for the post. But then he says this:

..."Webmasterworld" is rather telling that the site is *not* on "searchEngineworld".

IMHO, since the site is dedicated to everything "webmaster" then a big aspect is missing here... hardware. We wouldn't be doing any of the SE magic without a machine to get us there!

So, until I hear from Brett about this directly, I can't be sure that this site wouldn't benefit from a hardware forum.

If he doesn't pop in here by monday, I'll sticky him and give you all the response.

If you have a question, use Website Technology Issues! Generally, we have several good hardware discussions going on in there - in fact, there's two good threads in there that are currently active.

BakedJake-

THANKS A TON! I didn't even know that was in there! IN fact...

"From webservers to text editors, dealing with the alphabet soup of programs and protocols"

Sounds like a perfect fit! I'll be using that in the future for hardware questions I might have!

Then there are some that *could* go in a specialized forum. I'll have to be asking a question about printer brand compatibility for dual-booting XP and Red Hat and I suspect that'll need to go in the *nix forum.

While I can see many HW questions going there, but not all. There are issues which don't have anything to do with being a webmater, but are common to many webmasters.
