Well, I’ve been up most of the night due to stress because of the Yahoo news and over my guilt of a disparaging comment I made in the Supporter’s Forum in the SiteMatch thread. I usually don’t post stupid comments like that, and I felt the need to analyze why I did so and apologize. So here it goes, I’ll probably ramble a bit;)

I realize that I made the comment because I was angry. And my anger was caused by fear, fear of losing a job I love. I mean it, I love this work. And ironically, one major part of that IS the constant change due to the volatile nature of the search engines. But it’s also pretty scary at times, too.

So I started reading the Yahoo Inclusion Program thread and all the responses by Tim (from Yahoo), and I started feeling even MORE guilty. I may not agree with the changes, but it is really amazing that he is here at all, let alone answering our questions with a cool head in an extremely critical environment. Talk about scary!

And then I started thinking, what if things got so nasty here due to people’s anger that Brett decided just to shut ‘er down. And that made me see the real travesty here. It’s not about Yahoo’s new inclusion program, or the Florida debacle, etc. I should KNOW by now that these things come and go. It’s just a part of the biz. Losing WebmasterWorld and all the great information people share so freely here, now THAT would be the real threat to the job I love so much.

So to Brett, all the mods that have had to referee all night, and to Tim: Thank You.

Not being a supporter I have not read the comment(s) that you are apologizing for, but if you indeed have let yourself lose your dignity you are not the first member to do so. And you are one of the few who apologize in that situation. What ever you have done I think that you have rehabilitated yourself fairly well.

Interesting thought. There can be no doubt that there are members who simply turn their backs on WebmasterWorld because they get tired enough of problems like the one you describe. But what if Brett got that tired? I believe that his commitment to WebmasterWorld has a broad safety margin, but it is no matter of course that WebmasterWorld exists.
