Microsoft keeps making my life tricky

this morning i went to ms to do my updates. i've been remiss in doing so for a couple of months. i went specifically today because they have issued a new vunerability alert.

after reviewing the file list and choosing to update the first individual update, it "warned" me to update my system repair disk, close all programs (..ok) and backup all files. this was a special warning popup which naturally unnerved me. after beginning the install, i was given the opportunity to create an uninstall archive of the file - SP4, in the case i wanted to uninstall it later. i have never received this prompt when doing updates before.

anyone have any whys or whatfors? what is up with MS and what concerns should i have? - minus the standard :) i wont be changing my os in the near future.
