It seems like these topics get mixed in with whoever owns/feeds them. It seems like IYPs are just starting to blossom and that everyone could benefit from having a forum dedicated to it.

Just a thought.

PS: I would totally moderate it if needed.

As I've been working up some marketing recommendations for a client that has a local/regional service area, I keep stumbling over IYP considerations.

I don't know whether they're an idea who's time has come, or whether they're not yet ready for prime-time... but it would be interesting to have a place to discuss them.

The topic may not be able to sustain a forum, though. There's nothing worse than a forum with no threads. Maybe the topic could be local/regional marketing and search.

Looking at it optimistically, the development of local/regional search on the web might be analogous to that of cable TV... which was essentially a wasteland until the market became large enough that some of the cable channels became networks on their own.

Why are they any different from directories in general? Are you referring to online editions of print YPs that show the walking fingers symbol?

Yeah, pretty much. Right now it seems like every directory/search engine either has their own or is partnering with existing IYP companies.

There is a whole different strategy for purchasing/getting listed in these IYP's, than in regular directories. One of the major differences is that you need a physical address to be listed(generally).

I think local/regional marketing and search like Robert suggested might be a good solution.

I'm curious to various advertising in IYPs, but I don't think it'll support an entire forum.

However, I think there is enough non PPC advertising questions to split the Advertising Sales and & affilate forum into two forums.

Affiliates are numerous around here, and will easily support it's own forum.

If you took the advertising questions from search engine promotion and adv/aff sales, along with the growing IYPs and advertising in Directory questions, you could support a forum for non ppc advertising.
