"Last Messasge" could read:

6:56 pm on Dec 21, 2003 (utc 0)
user name

Would this be so hard to implement?

Try recent posts

No no no.

On the forum listing, like for example:
[webmasterworld.com...]

It could say who posted last to a certain thread.
That is useful information.

For example: In that case you would know that I have answered your previous message from looking at the listing. As it is now you just know that a message has been added.

I agree that it might be useful to some - personally I can wait to click to the page and then see who it was, usually it is more than one response.

Anyway, there is space below the time line for something like

11:48 am on Dec 22, 2003 (EST +11)
by anallawalla

I suspect it has more to do with saving bytes than technical constraints.

I like that too...and (since we are on the subject of threads) if they were marked (at the bottom?) Closed, I feel this would also enhance the experience here at WebmasterWorld.

Surely all those calls for a thread that is closed constitutes some potential savings. I know it sure would for all the folks who've clicked to respond only to find they can no longer respond.

I was going to post the same suggestion in this forum - but I'm glad its already here.
Its a very useful thing to do, and it will bring some help for reducing Bandwidth.

Anybody dis-agree?
