Forum Moderators: open
I have followed all the posting guidelines and have read the charter. In fact I am not a new user, but a long standing member, that started as a new name due to a technical glitch. I never had a problem in the past with new postings to Google News.
If their is a reason for rejecting a new thread in the Google News forum, the author's would like to know about it. Sending a sticky mail, would be the polite thing to do.

[webmasterworld.com...]
Can everybody logged in see it or is it only me?
These types of questions are often taken by people as an invitation to drop links to their particular "magic high rank on Google" tool which may explain why it's members only.
I don't see why that should matter and I am surprised an admin is comming with a statement like that. Are you telling me that admins allow post depending on if they like the content or not?
If that is the case I am not going to bother posting here anymore.
To answer your question, 'allowing' posts is not a matter of anybody liking the content or not. The fact that it passed pre-mod shows it was allowed. As to why it was set as members only, we can only guess unless the staff member who decided on that tells us.
The winking smily was intend to convey I was teasing you. I WAS TEASING YOU! I'm meant no offense and our ONLY criteria for acceptable posting is clearly spelled out in our Terms of Service [webmasterworld.com].
I'm just a webmaster that has been a member here for a long time, relaxing on a holiday and trying to answer your question. Perhaps I'm a little too relaxed and casual today. I meant no harm.
Sincerely
Dave
I've been impressed by how lenient the mods and admins have been for the last couple of weeks. There have been many URI's, specific search terms, etc etc and most of it has stayed on the boards.
No one has any right to complain right now... since Florida happened, it's surprising that the WW servers haven't started smoking then gone up in flames. We should be grateful that the site is still alive.
I would hate to be a moderator at Google News in times like the last couple of weeks. (No need for anybody to fear that eventuality. There's no chance that I'll ever be ;)).
runboy, WebmasterWorld surely has had lot of traffic lately, but I strongly doubt that significant amounts of money have followed that traffic.
That is nice.
On the other hand, I still don't believe they are suffering economically. A site like www.webmasterworld.com will make you wealthy and that is perfectly okay. I wish it was mine ;o)
What we stay away from:
- blog entries. There were no less than 50 blog stories about Florida. I'd guess 49 of them wanted to be posted on WebmasterWorld and about 200 of their friends wanted them posted too.
We have more than enough OpEd threads about Google - we want facts - we want hard news.
- theories. Like the Blog posts, every hair brained theory was put forth. No, I don't think Florida was an attempt by Google to buy Altavista (yes, some one wanted that posted).
- I want my my pages back! Every person who lost an index page felt the need to leave a post about it. This does not help anyone.
- I've been had, I lost pages, my pr is gone, bots don't like me, and other asundry personal problems. No, the fact that GoogleBot hasn't walked up and knocked on your door in over 8 hours, is not cause for a post.
We try to stay away from peoples personal site problems in Google - we always have even before moderation. Do you really care that Billy Jo Jim Bob's phentermine site with 9 links and 3 pages deep was not included in Google? Nope, we don't. Most of these would be duplicates anyway.
- Duplicates. Atleast a third of the new submissions fall under duplicate topics. Many times, the exact same post will be at the very top of the forum list.
- Bad titles. We rarely dig into bad titles any more. Eith the poster (an alleged Webmaster) can take the time to make sure a title reflects the post or not.
Here are some in the last 48, that were not approved. You can spot the problem just from the title:
