Can anyone please tell what is the meaning of the "thread" as in start a new thread.

The word "thread," in this context, is a common term used to describe a specific discussion which occurs in an online discussion area. Generally, each thread has a particular topic it's devoted to, usually indicated by the "subject" of the thread's first message.

For example, by posting your message in this forum, you started a new thread. Other people, like me, may reply to your message and thus the thread of messages grows. When no one else responds, the thread stops.
