Could someone help explain this to me.. :)
The Visible Text Size in particular seems to be referring to all Text visible to SE's/spiders is that correct.
I thought that the visible text size would just be the "content" of a web page.. however it seems to count the text within the <head> section of a document too...
I'm supposing that this would be correct as SE's would read the meta tags and embedded CSS too.
So as this affects the Text/HTML ratio what then is a good measure of text to HTML percentage wise?
I ran a test of a small page as an example and keeping the CSS embedded in the head the Text to HTML ratio was 39% but on removing the CSS to an external file the Text to HTML ratio went down to 12%... although the actual page size was smaller.... me confused
So (and not wanting to start the anti/pro CSS here) does that mean it's better to have a lower ratio? or is there an optimal ratio?

The optimum density varies from SE to SE and some say for a different searches on the same SE. I usually shoot for 5-15% when initially launching a page, then refine it as needed based on traffic and SERPs.
